Last week, Facebook released a teaser stating that it will announce something “awesome” this week but it looks like we don’t have to wait for the official announcement because it seems like before that, it’s already been confirmed that the social network will be unveiling a video chat platform that will be powered by Skype. This isn’t even the first time we’ve heard about Skype-powered video chat on Facebook. Rumors surfaced last year about such a product, but it never materialized.
What’s left in the dark is how this new feature will actually work and if it’s only a one-on-one video chat. In case you haven’t gotten the new Google+ yet and are eagerly waiting for a group video chat feature, check it out because Google+ Hangouts already allow you to do that. Are you excited about a new video chat capability in your social network account?
Update: While Facebook and Skype aren’t saying anything officially, our sources confirm that Skype-powered video chat on Facebook will indeed be launching next week.
In case you’re curious on how the new video chat would work on Facebook, thanks to the folks at Mashable, here’s a mockup designed by the team. Kind of reminds me of Google chat if you ask me, then again, how different could these things get?
